This opportunity is for DO, PA, and DPM students (1st years can begin volunteering here only after they have started the spring semester).

Since 2010, the Grace United Methodist Church Free Clinic (3700 Cottage Grove Ave, Des Moines, IA 50311), affiliated with Free Clinics of Iowa, provides free healthcare for the whole family. We serve anyone who comes through our doors: Whether you’re old, young ,or in-between, whether you’re insured, uninsured ,or underinsured, or if you simply want to come by because our hours of operation don’t require time off work, you are always welcome.

Students: please wear business casual or scrubs & bring your stethoscope and an enthusiastic attitude! 

**To be consistent with the guidelines from the CDC for those in the health care field, and to keep our community as safe as possible, all volunteers wishing to participate in DMU Community Service organized events, must be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. This means 2 weeks after your 2nd Pfizer or Moderna shot or 2 weeks after your first Johnson & Johnson shot. Please ensure you have verified your vaccination status by reviewing your immunization record on Pulse to make sure your vaccination date(s) are listed as we will be validating this to confirm eligibility to participate. Thank you for your cooperation. 

Here’s How The Clinic Works:

We’re open the first four Tuesdays each month with registration from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Patients are seen from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. No appointments are taken, and all services are free, provided by volunteers.

Services Include:

-Routine physical exams for adults and children

-School, sports, camp and employment physicals

-Acute illness and injury care

-Chronic disease management

-Diabetes testing and education

-Medication assistance

-Referrals

-Note: vaccinations are not available at the free clinic.
